Summer Seminar Sessions and Presenters

“Leading in Difficult Times”
David Koempel, Senior Consultant at the Texas Association of School Boards, and Katie Klanderud, MSBA Director of Board Development
  • As school board members, you serve because you are passionate and care deeply about your district’s students, staff, and families. When times are especially difficult, take a moment to remember the “why” behind your school board work. This reflection can help ground you, motivate you, and help you reframe the conversation back to students, especially when there are many viewpoints and emotions at play.
“Embarking on the Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Journey”
Amanda Keys, Culture and DE&I Consultant at Marsh McLennan Agency
  • Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DE&I) is an ongoing journey for both organizations and individuals alike. Understanding how DE&I manifests and shows up in both our personal and professional lives is important to know when starting the journey. This awareness overview will explore key foundational components of DE&I and provide a safe space for participants to explore their own journey. Participants will learn more about these concepts, explore tips to get started, and better understand ways to enhance DE&I within their board team and personal lives.
“Let’s Talk About Mental Health”
Courtney Patt, Health Management Consulting Manager at Marsh McLennan Agency
  • A variety of factors have a profound effect on the mental health of your students, staff, and fellow board members. Building mental health literacy is important in helping you identify, understand, and respond to signs of mental illness.
