MSBA Learning to Lead Workshop Series

The MSBA Learning to Lead Workshop Series is the most important set of workshops for school board members because it sets the foundation for their work. These sessions cover all aspects of school board service. Complete the entire Learning to Lead Workshop Series (Phases I, II, III and IV) to receive MSBA’s Leadership Development Certificate.
These workshops can be taken in any order.
The Learning to Lead — School Board Basics: Phase I Workshop covers the role of the school board, the superintendent, the leadership team relationship, and common scenarios facing new board members. This workshop is for newly elected or appointed school board members. Learn More
The Leadership Foundations — School Finance and Management: Phase II Workshop covers core topics such as the budget, school finance, local levies, policies, significant laws affecting school boards, and personnel issues. Learn More
The Building a High-Performance School Board Team: Phase III Workshop focuses on methods of decision-making, stages of board development, navigating board dynamics, small-group interactions with school board video scenarios, and the MSBA School Board Self-Evaluation. Learn More
The Representing Your Community Through Policy and Engagement: Phase IV Workshop focuses on in-depth discussions and examples of a board member’s role as a policymaker and interactive small-group sessions that walk through an actual community engagement activity. Also, this workshop will have a segment on dealing with the media and public forums. Learn More
