New Mexico lawmakers’ attempt to poach from land grant endowment should be lesson for Minnesota

The New Mexico House Government, Elections and Indians Affairs Committee recently voted down a proposal that would have allowed the state to use funds from its land grant endowment to expand early childhood education. Click here for story.

This story should serve as a lesson for Minnesota.

Revenue from our state’s version of a land grant endowment — the School Trust Lands — represents the inheritance of all K-12 public school children that is distributed to school districts across the state.

Any attempt to divert School Trust Lands money to anything other than K-12 public education should be opposed.
