In August, members of Congress return to their hometowns to meet with constituents locally and in September, they return to Washington, D.C. By reaching out to your members of Congress while they are home, you are helping to influence their decisions and votes on legislation impacting our local public schools. Members of Congress will be especially interested in your concerns as this is an election year for the entire U.S. House of Representatives and one-third of the Senate.
Please take this opportunity to communicate the following to your members of Congress during the August recess, using local examples that demonstrate how these issues and legislation may impact your school district. You can call your members’ offices using the Capitol switchboard at 202-224-3121 or use NSBA’s legislative action center at www.nsba.org/advocacy.
Please visit https://www.mnmsba.org/Portals/0/PDFs/Advocacy/2014NSBARecessPacket.pdf to download background and talking points for four priority legislative issues. More detailed issue briefs can be found at www.nsba.org/advocacy.
