14 Days of Advocacy: “Monday … Monday …”

14Days-Day1

Ready
It’s Monday! For many of you, Mondays are a school board meeting night. You have gone through the agenda and the packet and are ready to go. We would like to challenge you to do a little something more tonight. Today you will receive an email from your MSBA Board Director regarding MSBA’s “14 Days of Advocacy 4 Students.”

Visit https://www.mnmsba.org/AdvocacyMonth for details.

Set
Take a brief moment and encourage your board as a group to participate in Advocacy Month. Look over the activities together — each and every one is designed to help build awareness and share knowledge among ourselves and our legislators. The membership’s priorities for the 2016 Legislative Session will make the educational experience of our students the best it can be.

Your voice does make a difference at the Capitol. We hope you will join us in this effort and look forward to hearing from you.

Ideas for How to Participate in 14 Days of Advocacy 4 Students

As a board

  • Make it a board activity by choosing one or two activities you, as a board, can do collectively or in teams. Plan to write a letter to the editor of your local newspaper (see Day 4 or visit https://www.mnmsba.org/Portals/0/Documents/StandUp-LetterToEditor.doc for a template) or visit with a parent group about one of MSBA’s Legislative Priorities.
  • Cut up the calendar days, throw them in a basket and pick one or two activities to do. Afterward, share with the board your experience and outcomes.
  • Commit to sharing with the group the individual activities you choose to do.

As an individual

  • Print the 14 Days of Advocacy 4 Students sheet and tack it up by your phone or computer as a reminder.
  • Put reminders in your calendar/phone.

Share your ideas with MSBA’s Kim Lewis at klewis@mnmsba.org.
