First day of 2016 session — bills for education funding, special board elections introduced

Today was the beginning of the much-anticipated 2016 legislative session. The House released a number of pre-filed bills earlier this year and the Senate released 185 bills today.

MSBA members have been gearing up for the session throughout February with the 14 Days of Advocacy campaign. The two bills highlighted below are part of MSBA’s platform.

Today Sen. John Hoffman, Sen. Greg Clausen, Sen. Alice Johnson, Sen. Jim Abeler and Sen. Vicki Jensen introduced an MSBA billSF 2318 — that would increase the general education basic revenue allowance by 1 percent. Now would be a great time to reach out to your senators via email or phone and ask them to support SF 2318.
