“Sleeper Law” No. 8 — Rule would ease transfer process for special education student athletes

Parents, lawyers and special education student athletes were successful in passing a bill during the session. This law requires the Minnesota State High School League to waive the requirement for special education student athletes to sit out a year when they transfer schools. The League responded with a proposed rule that would:

  • Ensure the student is transferring for education purposes.
  • Create a more streamlined process to get the student eligible.

The League is required to get the new rule approved by their Board of Directors during their August meeting.
